It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
All I did was get a little too excited when I jumped off the couch and landed wrong. I instantly felt a searing pain in my back left leg. I was just so excited to be at my grandparents’ house!
Little, healthy dogs like me shouldn’t have to worry about our joints, and especially not at only 5 years old. Yet somehow I found myself in this scary exam room, where the vet told my mom, “Finlay has torn his CCL and the only real fix is a complex surgery called a TPLO.”
Mom and I were very worried. First, how was she going to pay for my surgery? The vet at home quoted us over $5,000, which was more than she could afford. Plus, I’m not just a pet - I’m a service dog. What would my mom do without me while I was recovering? Thankfully, we had KARMA Rescue as our guardian angels to help us through this process.
My mom has been a long-time volunteer at KARMA Rescue, and she immediately went to them for help. Not only was KARMA Rescue able to recommend lower-cost, high quality surgeons, but they also helped to pay for my surgery. As the cherry on top of this sundae of helpfulness, KARMA Rescue even checked in on me as I recovered to make sure I was doing well.
Now several months later, I’m feeling like my normal, happy self - but I use puppy stairs now instead of jumping on and off the couch! My leg feels as good as new and I get to play and help mom again (my two favorite things!) and I owe it all to Karma Rescue!
